Black Trans Empowerment Week
FAQ
-
Black Trans Empowerment Week (BTEW) is a week-long celebration and call to action that recognizes the lives, stories, and leadership of Black transgender, gender nonconforming, and intersex (TGNCI) persons.
It's an opportunity for introspection, resilience, and community care, with panels, performances, seminars, and gatherings that promote joy, culture, and collective empowerment.
-
BTEW aims to honor and validate Black trans existence, fostering environments for healing, visibility, and advocacy.
We pay tribute to those we’ve lost, acknowledge the brilliance and efforts of Black trans leaders, and commit to fostering the growth, wellness, and liberation of our community.
-
BTEW’s goals are rooted in community empowerment and transformation:
Celebrate the power, creativity, and resilience of Black trans and gender-expansive people.
Educate the broader community on trans liberation, safety, and systemic equity.
Connect community members to affirming resources, healthcare, housing, and support networks.
Build lasting relationships that prioritize unity, protection, and joy.
Honor the lives of Black trans people lost to violence and uplift the work of those continuing to fight for justice.
-
Black Trans Empowerment Week takes place each year from November 15 to 21, leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on November 20.
Every day includes community events, art exhibitions, and discussions focused on the year’s theme.
-
BTEW is open to everyone who believes in the empowerment and liberation of Black trans communities. While the week centers Black trans, gender non-conforming, and intersex experiences, allies, partners, and community members of all backgrounds are welcome to participate, learn, and show up in solidarity.
-
Some events require registration due to space limitations or capacity needs, while others are open to the public. Visit the BTEW 2025 page or social media pages for event details, registration links, and accessibility information.
-
